do we take bookings/larger parties?
at FREE SCHOOL LANE (the one in the centre of cambridge) – we don’t take bookings for small tables. but if there isn’t a table when you arrive we’ll simply take your mobile number whilst you go for a walk or a drink and contact you when your table is ready. our bar, SMOKEWORKS TAP, is located just next door, so is the perfect place to start your evening whilst you wait for your table
for larger groups, we do have a great basement room which is suitable for up to 2O people. perfect for group bookings, kids parties, events and networking. just email the team at firstname.lastname@example.org for more info
at STATION ROAD (that’s right, the one down from the train station!) – we can take bookings, small or large for brunch, lunch or dinner. for larger groups there is also a great basement space for up to 3O guests, and the TAP bar can also be booked for group events like networking. just email the team email@example.com for more info
can you just grab a drink?
yes! you can enjoy a beer, cocktail or bourbon in our bars, aka SMOKEWORKS TAP, they are located right next door at FREE SCHOOL LANE and to one side of our STATION ROAD restaurant. both are the perfect starting place for any evening whilst you plan the rest of your night or wait for your table in our restaurant
are we child-friendly?
yes! highchairs are available at both restaurants and we’re more than happy to offer most of our menu in a smaller portions to suit smaller appetites!
are we dog-friendly?
while we’re unable to accept dogs (excluding service dogs) in our main restaurant areas, you are more than welcome to bring them with you when you visit either of our TAP bars, or if you decide to dine with us outside at FREE SCHOOL LANE
is there disabled access?
while we have limited disabled access at both of our restaurants, we will always do our best to accommodate any guest who requires support to access the building. for more detail please visit our detailed access guides on the AccessAble website:

is it just meat? do you cater for vegetarians and vegans?
obviously we love our meat at SMOKEWORKS but we do our best to offer vegetarian and vegan options whenever possible, and happy to offer a range of meatless loaded fries and breadless sandwiches (we swap the bread for a salad) to make things a little less carb heavy for those who prefer it!
where’s the beef ribs?
we’ve had to take a couple of items off the menu for now because of supplier issues around consistency and quality, for now this mainly means beef ribs, but at times other products are also impacted not only because of COVID, but also because of issues at the border. we hope to get this matter resolved as quick as we can and are working with our suppliers to make sure this impacts you, the customer, as little as possible. but please bare with us while we try to solve this mainly beef related problem!
and what about allergens and intolerances?
at SMOKEWORKS we take allergens and intolerances very seriously and we always endeavour to cater for anyone who suffers from them, but if you need more information before your visit then please send us a message via our CONTACT US page. when you visit either of our restaurants, just make sure you speak to the manager on duty if you need any questions answered!
can I park at the restaurant?
afraid not. but there are car parks close to both of our restaurants:
FREE SCHOOL LANE – the nearest car park is at the grand arcade (entrance on corn exchange street)
STATION ROAD – the nearest car park is at the cambridge train station itself. there are also various pay and display streets surrounding station road
what’s this £1 added to the bill thing all about?
on 23rd september 2O18 the CAMBSCUISINE COMMUNITY FUND (CCF) was launched, and across all of the restaurants in the CAMBSCUISINE group we’ve been raising money to support vulnerable people in cambridgeshire. so in all of our restaurants, for every bill over £3O, we add a discretionary £1 to support the fund. to find out more about the fund click here!
what payment methods do we take?
we accept all major credit cards including AMEX. as well as the following digital methods: APPLE PAY. ANDROID PAY. WECHAT PAY and ALIPAY.
obviously if cash is your only option, then we’re not going to say no, although swapsies and bartering are still a no for now!
